Q: I am planning to do the nightclub photography and these are the settings I have been recommended.
Manual Mode
ISO: 800
Aperture: f/3.2 to f/5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/2 - 1/40 sec
White Balance: Flash
Picture Style Parameters:
Sharpness: +1
Contrast: +1
Saturation: +1
Color Tone: 0
I have tried these settings and shot the pictures but I can see that without the flash the pictures are tinted and yellow light dominates. Is there any kind of settings to set without the use of external flash (I can use the built in flash though)?
A: The pictures are tinted and yellow light dominates because the white balance is set to flash, but the flash isn't being used. Note that the camera settings I've recommended is when you're using an external flash. The camera settings used should be different if you don't want to use flash at all. By the way, I don't recommend using the camera's pop up flash. It's not an adequate source of light for nightclub photography. It can also get annoying since it produces several bursts of pre flashes to help focus on the subject. Sometimes the people think that you've already taken the picture because of all the pre flashes.
If you're not already familiar with photography and not quite sure know how the aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and white balance affect the final image, please read some introduction to digital photography books to get a better understanding and appreciation of how the camera settings work to get the desired final image.
