Q: One of my worries is focus when I'm shooting in a club at night. I begin to use my focus lock. What is most common when your trying to focus and the scenery isn't that well lit? Thank you.
A: Use an external flash unit and it will help with focusing in dark nightclubs; it emits a focus assist beam. It also helps using a fast lens. If there's still an issue using auto focus, then use manual focusing as a last resort.
Also not that when I'm shooting at a dark club, I walk around to find an area that has good lighting. What separates a great shot from a an ok shot is great lighting. Even if the club is dark, there's usually an area that has adequate lighting.
